When you come, please wear neutral-colored clothing; no shorts or tank tops. Try to arrive at least 10 minutes before the first sitting. If you arrive while zazen is in progress, you will have to wait until the next kinhin period. Someone will open the door and direct you upstairs.
Requested donation: $5 per visit, or $30 - $50 per month for people attending regularly. If you're unable pay that much, please donate whatever you wish. Money should not be an obstacle to participating.
Other activities
We also have periodic daylong and weekend retreats and workshops, and host invited Zen teachers several times a year. For more information, see the events page. To be added to our e-mail list (a few messages/month) send e-mail to kashinzendo@gmail.com. The zendo Facebook page can be found here.
New location in Silver Spring
Until mid-March, Ka Shin Zendo is occupying a new, temporary location in Silver Spring.
The zendo is located in a vacant loft apartment near the new downtown Silver Spring. The apartment building is on the SW corner of Fenton and Bonifant Streets. This is a few blocks from the Metro station, and one block from the Whole Foods. On-street parking is metered until 6 p.m. Mon-Sat; nearby public lots are free on weekends. (Do not park in the building lot, it's private.) Here is a Google map of the location - click on the blue marker to get driving directions:
Because this is an apartment building, we cannot leave the door open as in our old location. Instead, someone will open the door and let people in prior to the first sit and again during each kinhin period.
If you arrive a few minutes early, just wait outside the door. If you're late, you will have to wait until the next available window. (It's easy to leave, get coffee in SS, and return).
Times the door will be opened:
Tuesday before 6:30 p.m. (also before 6 p.m. on orientation days) and during kinhin: 7:10-7:20 and 8:00-8:10 p.m.
Saturday before 8:30 a.m. (also before 8 a.m. on orientation days) and during kinhin: 9:00-9:10 a.m.
Thanks for your patience. If you have any questions, please email us.
